This term, Concord College International School’s (CCIS) Science Department achieved a remarkable double milestone.
For the first time, fourteen students from Years 11 to 13 participated in the UK Chemistry Olympiad (UKChO) and the British Physics Olympiad (BPhO), and they delivered outstanding results across the board.

UK Chemistry Olympiad
The UKChO is hosted by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), headquartered in London and Cambridge. It is one of the world’s most influential chemistry organisations. The competition’s challenging problems often spark debate and require A-Level (or equivalent) chemistry knowledge. Participants must creatively apply that knowledge to unfamiliar, complex scenarios. These are exactly the skills needed for university and beyond.
CCIS’s #RisingStars rose to the challenge with:
· 5 Gold Awards
· 1 Silver Award
· 2 Bronze Awards
A special mention goes to Stanford, the only Year 11 student who took on A-Level standard questions and secured a Gold award. This is an extraordinary achievement and sets the benchmark for future CCIS participants.
Congratulations to Stanford, Evangeline, Harry, Yuchan, Schannel, Chloe, Yu Qian, and Kieron.

British Physics Olympiad
The BPhO is hosted by the University of Oxford, the Institute of Physics (IOP) , and the Odgen Trust, with offices based at the university. The proof-based problems require students to apply a broad range of physics knowledge with precision.
In the Intermediate Physics Competition:
· 2 students received Silver awards (top 46.08% globally)
· 2 students secured 7th and 9th place out of 50 spots in the Bronze awards
In the Senior Physics Competition:
· 2 students received Silver awards (top 30.60% globally)
Congratulations to Ethan, Kingsley, Lucas, Gihyeon, Yuchan, and Shane-Le.
Pathways to UK & China Chemistry and Physics Camps
Gold award winners in the UK Chemistry Olympiad were invited to a prestigious camp at the University of Cambridge while the BPhO Silver Award recipients were invited to the Asia Camp in China. These camps are set to further develop the participants’ skills and knowledge through experiment-based learning guided by leading professors from UK universities.
Two of CCIS’s #RisingStars have already decided to join the camps during the summer break.
We wish them all the best and celebrate every student who took on this challenge with courage and curiosity.
