A Stronger Presence with Experience

It takes experience to become better.

With that in mind, the Mathematics and Science Departments are turning every opportunity into a milestone for Concordians.

Concord College International School (CCIS) celebrates the achievements of our students who recently participated in highly respected international Mathematics competitions as well as the National Science Challenge.

Scoring the Maths

The UKMT Junior Mathematics Challenge and the University of Waterloo Canadian Mathematics Competitions are international mathematics challenge designed to test students’ mathematical reasoning, problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively beyond the standard curriculum.

“We are extremely proud of every student who took part, as participation itself reflects confidence, determination and a willingness to extend themselves mathematically,” said Ms Susanna Wiid, Head of Mathematics Department.

In the UKMT Junior Mathematics Challenge, Concordians achieved 2 Participation certificates, 5 Silver certificates and an impressive 7 Gold certificates. To achieve Silver, students need to be placed in approximately the top 50%, while Gold represents performance in approximately the top 25% of participants.

A special congratulations goes to Xinrui, who achieved Gold and Best in Year, placing in the top 4.2%, and to Cotono, who achieved Gold and Best in School, placing in the top 2.5%.

Our students also performed exceptionally well in the University of Waterloo Canadian Mathematics Competitions, including the Gauss, Pascal, Cayley and Fermat competitions. Across Years 7 to 11, students achieved 27 Participation certificates, 19 Distinction certificates, and 5 Outstanding Achievement or Medal awards.

Special recognition goes to the top performers in each competition group:
Year 7 Gauss: Xinrui — Outstanding Achievement and Top in School, 81%
Year 8 Gauss: Yu Bin — Outstanding Achievement, 96%
Year 9 Pascal: Zihan — Distinction and Medal, 92%
Year 10 Cayley: Lenice — Distinction and Medal, 77%
Year 11 Fermat: Seunghu — Distinction and Medal 83%

Science Footprints

Meanwhile, nine Year 9 and Year 10 Concordians participated in the National Science Challenge 2026, organised by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, competing for the prestigious YAB Prime Minister’s Challenge Trophy.

Although the three teams did not progress to the State Level, we celebrate their courage, commitment, and academic ambition in taking on the challenge and representing the school in the preliminary round.

The participants were:
Team 1: Lenice, Harrell, and Kingsley
Team 2: Rou Ee, Sheanie, and Bryan
Team 3: Constence, Vivaker, and Yan Qi

“It’s amazing to see these talented mathematicians and future scientists making waves. Their achievements reflect not only strong mathematical and science abilities, but also perseverance, curiosity and the courage to take on challenging problems,” said Executive Principal, Dr. Phil Outram.
